How did Pen Sulo Spirit come about?
In 2008 a group of 45 volunteers from all over the UK and Channel Islands joined forces with the local villagers and workmen to build a maternity clinic in Pen Sulo, Malawi that will serve over 50,000 people in a rural community.
With the help and support of their colleagues, friends and family, the volunteers managed to raise a staggering £85,000 to pay for the building materials and labour.
Working closely with the volunteering organisation Quest, in June the team spent four weeks working with the local community to build the clinic by hand.
The majority of the building work was completed in 2008, but further work and money is needed to complete nurse’s accommodation and to make the clinic fully operational. The Pen Sulo Spirit Forum was created to help raise the money needed.
